C.C. sites as accommodation whilst working away
Last week I stayed at Wyatts Covert in order to have a short holiday in London. I was dismayed to confirm that the site is being used as cheap accommodation by people working in the local area and subsequently posted the following site review which I think might be of interest to a broader audience, hence my posting it again here. Reading other reviews of that site I note that other members have expressed similar concerns regarding the use of this busy site for work purposes.
I also wonder just how widespread this 'working' practice is across other similarly busy Club sites.
Here is my review:-
"Have used this site three times, my latest visit being last week. I have no problems with the site per se apart from the showers need updating. The wardens and their site maintenance are outstanding. What irritates me is that, by the Caravan Club's own admission, the site is regularly occupied as cheap accommodation by people who work in the local area but whose homes are at a distance. This practice was confirmed by the then wardens on my second visit and also by a resident of the adjacant permanent residential park during my latest visit. I raised this matter with the C.C. but was told no rules were being broken but it seems to me that such occupancy flies in the face of the true objective of the Club i.e. providing members with a base to visit the local area. The occupancy of pitches by people using the site as a work base results in the site being full and bona fide visitors being unable to visit the site. If other members feel that this working practice is acceptable - fine, but I don't think it is morally right no matter what the rules say".
