Site recommendation North west Germany?

we will be travelling from Calais to Plonersee in mid August which is around 550miles so a bit too far in one day. Any recommendations for a one night stopover en-route? Somewhere around Osnabruck seems about half way however any suggestions welcome! Just
to add we have a dog.
