Taking a dog to Italy?

Following on from another posting of mine have any members taken their dog to Italy on holiday and if so how did it go? We had a great time this summer in Austria/Germany and a very short enforced stay France with our Springer Spaniel and having decided
to head for Lake Garda would like to take him again next year.
