Retirement Age Discounts abroad

Several site in Spain offer serious discounts for "Seniors" in the low season - especially if they are staying for a long time. Do they offer the discount to individuals over 60, couples over 60 or do you both have to be over 65? Do they rigidly observe
the dates of birth on passports or is it just a low season reduction to encourage people to book with them?

One of us is over 60, one isn't - hence the reason for posing the question. Many thanks in advance for any replies or answers. We appreciate the time you take in posting a reply.
