Changing a breakaway cable.

I have a detachable towbar on my car which should not have the breakaway cable looped round it (did not know this until recently
).I am going to change the cable to one with a caribina type clip so I can attach it to the fixing point on the tow bar.

Has anyone got any hints and tips to do this from their experience? It looks relatively a relatively simple job. My van is a Bailey Unicorn Madrid Series 1 which has the Alko spring clip.
