Sites near Barcelona

I've wanted to return to Barcelona ever since my last visit in 1990. I'd love to see whether they've finished building that church yet. 

Back in the day, we used to stay at Playa Montroig but nowadays this is obscenely expensive. Can anyone recommend any pleasant sites in the area? In all honesty, we're not all that fussed about the beach but a pool would be good. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.
