Changing bulbs to LED's

Our caravan has quite a few G4 12v capsule bulbs which i understand are quite power hungry and I am thinking of changing them to LED's, are they compatible on all caravans? We do quite a few sites with no hook ups and even though we have fitted solar panels
they are great in the summer months of long days but we do have to be careful in the winter season with short hours of daylight. Any thoughts?
