Security when touring abroad.

We are touring on the continent this year and my wife has raised a concern regarding security of valuables such as passports etc, wondered about one of those small safes secured to the floor of the caravan or do some sites offer safety deposit boxes. Or
are we worrying unnecessarily, any thoughts?
