Hi vis jackets 1 per person

    Warning triangle per vehicle

Optional Breath test kit as if asked"Do I need one?" The answer will be no but you may feel happier getting one just to be certain

    First aid kit

GB stickers or EU reg No

Adjust lights not to dazzle or get deflectors for headlights

I think the ruling is 1 HiVis jacket for every seat in the vehicle on the basis that whilst there may only usually be, say, two people in the vehicle, you might offer someone a lift etc

There are still a few of the old EHU bollards around designed for the two pin French plug so you should probably take an adaptor.

Never heard that before! One jacket per person is all you need.

Write your comments here...If you did, for example, take friends out with you in your vehicle and you had a breakdown, your additional passengers would not have the benefit of HiVis jackets if you only had two - hence the ruling by the French authorities
that every seat has to have the provision. Perhaps the CC can confirm this which, I believe, I originally read on CT several months ago.

Sufficient gas for your trip.  Spare light bulbs for car and caravan (bulbs for car is a requirement although doubt if enforced!).  Sun glasses and mossie repellant!  Vehicle docs, including MOT if applicable.  EHIC - old E111 - (although too late if you don't have one by now!).  French/UK socket adaptor for things like a hairdrier.  Most important is the corkscrew!!  If you might pop into Spain add spare glasses if applicable.

Have a great trip.  If you have not driven on right before take care at roundabouts esp first few and when leaving garages etc - tip, driver's bum in drain!!!!

There seems to be some incorrect information posted here.

Spare bulbs and breathalyser kits are NOT required although some recommend them.

I believe HiViz jackets are one per occupant, not one per seat, so if two are travelling you need two jackets.

Unfortunately various organisations give conflicting advice e.g. AA and RAC.

We take spare bulbs just in case ours fail. We have Vis Vests one per person and yes the two dogs have one too. Deflectors, triangle,. We do not bother with Breathalyser Kits . Our fourth time to France and we have not needed any up to now.. Yes these can be bought at Supermarkets if Required. I hope ypu have a  great  trip and hopefully you have all you need just in case of  anything going wrong which unfortunately we never can predict .. Daughter is staying near Mayenne she said the Weather is Beautiful.. She had no trouble at the Port at Newhaven Yesterday so all good ..

I have always taken spare bulbs, it just makes sense but with modern HID headlights and the voltages involved you cannot really be expected to fix these yourself.

    Or am I wrong?

Sorry, absolutely right, spare bulbs not a requirement for France but it is wise to have them anyway.  A caravan break bulb went U/S in Spain this year, luckily I had a spare.

Not sure where you are travelling from but don't forget that the Datford crossing has no barriers now so if you don't have a tag then pay up front before you go. Also, use the CC club card at the M6 toll if you're going that way.

... or it has headlight bulbs that are said to be dangerouse to DIY,  ....

HIDs? They are completly safe to DIY, as long as you give them time to power down ... a brew/ciggy is long enough
Cool. Access though might very well be a problem on many of today's cars Sad

Mercedes handbook says LED`s can only be changed by qualified technician (at great expense no doubt).
