Santander/Bilboa/Southern Spain
We are planning to travel to Spain either via Santander or Bilboa and then on to southern Spain.
Has anybody stayed at Camping LOMONTE which is 03191 Pilar de la Horadada. This is between Torrevieja and Mar Menor. Was planning to stay Feb thru Apr/May, would it be necessary to book for this period, are there any other good sites in this area worth looking
at.
Has anybody got a recommendation for a stop over site from either Santander or Bilboa to Camping LOMONTE, will be towing a Coachman Amara and i think to do the journey in a oner would be possibly too long.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

Lo Monte is very busy at this time of year, most people stay long term because ACSI doesn't start till April so you need to stay a while to get the rate down otherwise quite expensive for Spain with electricity well above the going rate (cost me 4euros for
one night). The other sites in the area i would recommend are Marjal (both) and La Marina. We live about ten miles inland from Guardamar and would recommend the A23 route with one stop off at Zaragoza municipal, we do this route quite often and it's good
motorway all the way and cuts the need to go anywhere near Madrid but it is probably too far for one hit (your on holiday) in total about 10/12 hours driving either way. By the way forecast for tomorrow 25c.0 -
....and some dock around 1800hrs

Phil, that would put you around Algorfa/Almoradi. Never knew that was part of Derbyshire. When we are in Spain we attend the church in San Fulgencio.

Write your comments here...Benijofar actually, must remove Derbyshire because i come from Notts, i put that because i have been working there for the the last five years i retire next Tuesday. Often drive over too San Fulgencio to watch the football there
because a lot of Brits play for them.0 -
We stayed at lo Monte for 3 weeks May 2015. It is a well run and clean site. On the edge of Torre de la Horadada, about 1000 metres to the sea and about 400 yards to nearest Supermarket and bars
We found it very quiet and seemed to fall between the northern europeans leaving and the Spanish arriving for the summer. Indoor pool mainly used by local keep fit group. Found the site very flexible and good to deal with by Email, they speak good English
Nice area to explore, can give more info if you want

Thanks to all for help, no ferries booked as yet was looking at this for 2017, we have a daughter who lives in Villa Martin so we know a little bit about the area. Although I have towed extensively in the UK particularly in Scotland which can be quite challenging,
we have never been into mainland Europe, so yes "olden" if you have more info it would be much appreciated, I should have added that we also have a dog that will be travelling with us but dont see that as much of a problem. Thanks0 -
We had a holiday home near Torrevieja for about 13 years, but if you have a daughter in Villamartin, she will no doubt have similar local knowledge
For a meal out would recommend Lilly's in the square, in Torre, which is just back from the sea front. Lovely schnitzel
To go further afield, without driving, would recommend Daves coaches who do lots of excellent value trips. "Blanket trip" are free but mean that you have to sit through a demonstration and keep your hands in your pockets, but there are also paid trips, mainly
to the north of the CB, but also south to Cartegena and Murcia. For many of the trips they can pick up at the Lo Monte hotel which is about 1/2 mile from the site. If you are going North you will be first pickup and last drop off. More info here:http://www.coachtripsonline.com/index.php/day-trips
If you have cycles there is a track on the front that will take you down to Lo Pagan, with it's mud baths and the Mar Menor, which is very pretty
Hope this helps, if you want more, perhaps you could be more specific. Have a lovely time
