What is best set up for cooking outside?
We have just returned from our first trip abroad and what a steep learning curve it was for us new campers. We have a motorhome with all the normal facilities but we would prefer to cook outside whenever possible to keep the cooking smells and oils etc. away from the van. On this tour down to Spain I used a slow cooker, electric pan and a gas barbecue outside but had some difficulty with the wind and potential rain on occasions. I placed the slow cooker under the van on occasions and all the rest of the time the electric cooking was done on a Kampa roll top table. I use a 3 way splitter at the mains point and a camping extension lead with its own RSD to get outside electricity and try to keep the socket part under cover if unattended.
We are going to replace the electric pan with a single electric hot plate and use our own pans, which we think will be more versatile for our needs.
The Spanish all seem to have utility tents with cooking stations inside which seem to work well but should you really cook inside a tent from a fire risk perspective?
I have seen DSB’s windbreak with a canopy set up, HERE, which looks good, how has it fared now since you did that post in 2012 David?
We have looked at a Kampa utility tent, HERE, as a possibility, anyone have something similar? It would also allow storage space for chairs etc.
Before we embark on a spending spree I would very much appreciate comments on what others do in these circumstances.
