Lunar Clubman SE Touchpad/Display screen Locked

edited January 2016 in Caravans #1

Hi,

Today I have been into my caravan to check it out  and have turned the Mains supply on before going into the van. Our van has an EC370 Control Panel fitted over the entrance door but unfortunately, after turning on the PCU unit
(under the front bunk), the display screen is frozen and none of the buttons for lighting, water pump etc. will work.

As suggested in the Handbook, I have tried - several times- turning the power off for a minute or so but the screen/unit is still locked up. It is a 2015 van and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Our first annual service is
due next month...

Unless you are intending to use it before the service I would speak to the workshop and see if they have any ideas and assuming they are the supplying dealer they could look at it as a guarantee claim.

Thanks for your advice - I had expected that the Dealers and a claim would be the likely step. Having had a few other issues during our first year and the time it took to resolve things, I am not too enamoured with starting this ball rolling with something
    else.

You could phone Sargent direct. They are very user friendly and could point you to a few things before you take it to the dealer.

(I had the panel in my 2015 Lunar replace directly by them, no problems)

As a 2014 clubman owner, it sad to see the many faults that present themselves on a new van. I haven't come across this fault but will be watching with interest on the outcome. wish you well.

The only reason that I had to replace my 2015 panel was a software problems that displayed the solar panel current as a negative. It didn't stop it working, just annoyed me.

Sargent were excellent to deal with. Mailed out a new panel together with a reply paid return slip.

Yes, Sargent have been excellent and after trying a few things it was only possible to cure it with a new panel. This was sent to me the next day after contacting Sargent & I fitted it myself the same morning. Thankfully it worked straight away - phew! -
and I arranged the return of the failed panel to Sargent - who were marvellous. They said they only get the odd failure and that I had been unlucky. Perhaps there are a few more failures which will show themselves as people return to caravanning in the Spring
and as I've said with this fault none of the 12v systems will work....

Paulpro.....glad you sorted your issue out.

although i had nothing to do with this thread, id like to make two points.

....firstly, Sargent are a great company to deal with, will reply to phone calls and emails promptly....really useful for other members to know, thanks for highlighting this....

...secondly, thanks for posting the resolution to your problem so that others might benefit.

too often, threads like this get left in limbo with no apparent resolution and those who help having no idea whether their info has been of any use whatsoever.....

if only the search process were able to throw up a thread like this if anther member had the same issue.....Undecided

Thanks for your kind words.... Having sorted this out I now find that I seem to have a battery which is draining rather quickly or even worse, the charger unit isn't working correctly Sad

been reading many 'battery' threads on MMM forum....one contributor who's company repairs chargers has posted often that duff batteries can kill chargers (they have to work too hard) rather than the more logical 'duff chargers kill batteries'....

get an auto-electrician to help you detect which part of the system (if any) is pulling the battery down...

also, the battery itself can be tested....(away from the van, or disconnected ) use a seperate 'smart' charger to get the battery as high as you can.....leave for 24 hrs and take a reading.....fully charged should be about 12.7v.....leave for a couple of
days and measure again....charge should still be well up....if falling away then battery likely to be duff....

of the battery stays up well on its own, then it is one of the systems (alarm, immobiliser etc....) dragging it down.....

finally try and charge the battery using your onboard charger but with as many circuit fuses pulled as you can, to test that this charger works fine and can fully charge the battery without the drag of any other van systems....

    good luck.

I too have found Sargeant to be an excellent company to deal with. They check the Swift forum constantly and helped me by email on a Sunday morning last summer!

Over the last few days I have been carrying out a few monitoring exercises very much in line with your suggestions - BB.

I was running my Alde CH on low setting and so was using the battery whilst the charger (Sargent) & 12v were "on". It was when I turned the charger off and left the CH on that the dramatic drop in voltage occurred, which led me to think that the battery
was supect. From being 12.7v mid Friday it went down to 12.1v by late Saturday. Quite a quick drop really as the CH was not on very much and, the Stinger Alarm should not really draw a big current. I restored the battery using a CTEK and was able to turn this
off after 24 hours. With the 12v master switch turned off since mid-Monday, the battery is still stabilising to 12.7v. I will watch this now for a day and then switch on the 12v master to see if this produces a more rapid drop and take it from there. Perhaps
the CH system and Alarm take more Ah than I realise but draining the battery in a day and a half seems a bit steep. Work in progress.....

when the charger was off and the battery went down to 12.1 (about 55% full) im guessing it was under load (the heating pump) when ypu took the reading....

batteries seem to climb back a lot once the load os reduced and you have measured the resting level.....

as you say, some recording work to do...over a bit of time....

Yes, the CH was still on but not necessarily working due to low setting. I suppose it would be on standby/monitoring though. The alarm is also drawing some current but can't be much. Whilst  waiting for the by switch on I will try to find the likely Ah draw
from both the likely culprits. Just taken a reading at 12.9v (still settling)which makes me think the battery is ok.
