Caravanning in the Republic of Ireland

I have just come back from a coach holiday to southern Ireland and touring caravans were noticable by their almost complete absence. It was four days before I saw one on the road and only half a dozen in the week and all of them were from the UK. I am drawn
to the conclusion that caravanning is not a Irish thing. I had initially planned to take my van across there but am glad I didn't. Where, for example would you get specialist back-up in the event of a problem? spares, acessories etc? The only caravan sites
I saw were those included in the club handbook. So choice must be extremely limited. Does anyone have any suggestions that would tempt me to change my mind and take my van over there?
