Just changed my car and the build't in Sat Nav has a great feature. The campsites in the POI's can be phoned by just pressing the contact button.  I use it to check that reseption will be open when we arrive.

But what is the cost of updating maps with a built in sat navi?

I wouldn't want to update the Outlander sat nav it's rubbish!  I am glad others don't get on so well with built ins!  But I must admit phoning with the contact button would be useful!

I should not have said go to dealers to update sat nav. Same reason you should not have your caravan serviced by main dealer when privetly is half the price and will not effect your warrenty. There are private firms that will do it for you.

Last time I looked at updating my Touareg satnav it was silly money.  It's only a year old and the some of the roads were out of date, the day I got it.  Shame really because, otherwise, it's an excellent piece of kit and it does have that dial-up facility
    on POIs.

Our Ford SatNav is a complete waste of space!  Part of the ringroad in Perpignan has been there for as long as I can remember, but our Satnav persists in showing it as 'empty space' and urging us to do a u turn at every possible turn-off.  We carry on, and
get to exactly where we went to go without any help from the SatNav!

I ued to have a Mercedes, but upgraded to a Vauxhall. They both had the very nice lady telling me "wrong again". This is because Merc, Opel and VW all use HERE sat Guidance. It used to be called NAVTEQ. Nokia bought Navteq then the German car manufacturers bought it from Nokia. Look on the HERE website for what you want then look on ebay, ect for best price.

I manage very well without a sat nav and still don't know what POIs are, but I do buy a new paper map every five years or so. They do fall apart, don't they.

Would you like my old maps from the 80's. You do realy know what POI's are don't you. They are in all the travel books you lug around.

We had a built in sat nav in our Toyota Landcruiser. We ended up buying a cheap TomTom when it started becoming out of date and the TomTom worked a lot better than the built in one.

(not that I particularly recommend TomTom as a product!)

Lots of great new inventions on caravans these days, I think potentially the metal bands inside tyres must be up there I have had two flat tyres over the last couple of trips through Pyrenees and trashed the wheel on both occasions. Sat nav a good help in
putting you right on the mark for some of the out of the way Aires as well.

Tyron Bands? They're not a moderen invention, they came out years ago when rim design meant that they had the potential to do their bit ... today however rim design makes them redundant .... IMHO

I have a device that Navigates perfectly, books me into the camp site, finds our pitch, ensures the van is level and then gives me instructions on where all the accesories go, They Do come a little expensive Though!!! But I would not be without the OH with
meSurprised. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

But on a more serious note i would not be without my Twin rear view cameras on the caravan or my dash cam, you never know when the idiots are going to come outSealed. Use left and right arrows to navigate.
