The workmaen have all gone now. All fascias and soffits and guttering complete yesterday and new porch installed today. The porch replaced one I built about twenty years ago out of wood but that had started to rot so had served its purpose. The new porch looks very smart and matches in with the windows and fascias. The one I built was only single glazed but the new one is double glazed so that should help with keeping the house warm. Only the scaffold towers to collect now, hopefully tomorrow morning before I take Margaret to her lunch date with her chums.

    David

Back home from North Norfolk.  Wild weather last night and wind gusting over 45mph this morning.  Planned to leave van at Barleywood and pick up tomorrow.  Drove about 5 miles and saw wind was moderating so went back, picked up van and saved myself an additional
80 mile trip tomorrow.  Van safely in storage and all good in East NorfolkHappy

Something to put your mind to DD.....

Today we have been measuring up our south-facing sun room for new blinds, we want wooden venetians to match the rest of the house.

We have Ikea wooden venetians out there at present, only some 7 years old, but they are falling apart.

The plastic bits in the lift and turn machanisms have broken, due I think to the exposure to direct sunlight, and the over 30 degree temperatures that we can get out there.

New blinds are hopefully better quality, but will still be aubject to the same conditions.

What can I do to protect the header bits from direct sunlight?

And will that be enough, or is it the heat that dows the damage?
