Malcolm, did you check out about winter fuel allowance, not sure if you saw all the posts about it.

Write your comments here...Yes, I read the posts about it. It looks like I'll start to get it automatically because of my state pension although it will be paid separately.

    From gov.uk

    3. Eligibility

You’ll qualify for Winter Fuel Payment if:

    • you were born on or before 5 May 1953 (for winter 2016 to 2017 - this date changes every year)
    • you’ll be living in the UK throughout the week of 19 to 25 September 2016

You may be able to get the payment if you live in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) country and you have a genuine link with the UK.

You can’t get the payment if you live in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain because the average winter temperature is higher than the warmest region of the UK.

    When you won’t qualify

You won’t qualify if throughout the week of 19 to 25 September 2016 you:

    • are in prison
    • are in hospital getting free treatment for more than 52 weeks
    • need permission to enter the UK and don’t qualify for help from the Department for Work and Pensions
    • have lived in a care home for the previous 12 weeks or more and get Pension Credit, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    • lived in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain

    Change of circumstance

Report any change of circumstance as these can affect how much you get. For example, if the qualifying person stops getting a benefit, moves out, dies or goes into care.

Contact the office paying your benefits - their details are on any letters they sent you.

Most Winter Fuel Payments are paid automatically. Write to the office that pays your Winter Fuel Payment if you want to cancel it.

Malcolm, if I were you I'd check it out again, the date quoted this year is the womens state pensionable date, this would have been earlier in previous years.  If you qualified for your state pension this year by my reckoning you were born in 1951 so would
have been eligible before.  Since you haven't received it I would say you need to claim it to make sure.  Only my reading of the wording
    Wink

I think there has been enough conversation on this subject so it's now up to you, I'll post no more about it.

Glorious day here but rather chilly, especially compared to recent temperatures.  Spent morning placing online present orders.  Got very frustrated, one site in particular kept telling me my billing address didn't agree
Surprised.  Couldn't see anything wrong myself but retried several times.  Gave up in the end and used laptop - no issues, I had been on
my tablet but not had problems before Sealed.  Just watching the film The Queen whilst I potter with ironing and catch up on here.  Off out with
friends to a quiz this evening, looking forward to it.  Have checked the garden for loose items in preparation for forecast winds
    Surprised

We had our flu jabs this morning and afterwards I was supposed to be fitting a new pair of gates on my daughters drive but all I managed to do was remove the old posts and gates. We had one hailstorm after another; it’s a bit cold for outside work. I’ll give it another try on Monday weather permitting.Wink

B2, that (meaningful, not) edit message just means that you passed the time by which the CT site feels you need to edit a post.....

I think we came to the conclusion that most of us had to actually claim it if we were entitled to it before our own pension age, like Malcolm would have been.

But now he is getting his pension he should get it automatically.

Malcolm, give them till the end of December as they do say everyone should get theirs by then.  If still no word then chase it up.  You have till March if you need to claim.

Unfortunately I would think you will not be able to claim for the years you missed out on.

Very cold here today, my thermometer in the kitchen has been beeping a "low temperature warning", will need to turn on the CH early.

We did have some blue sky and sun, but it only lasted a couple of hours.

Off to prepare ingredients for soup making.

Hard frost but sunny today.  Went to NWT Cley, had a good walk round and took some cracking photos of a spoonbill.  The other excitement was I brought myself a new travel telescope so looking forward to trying it out in 'the field'.

Gave the dog his bath, so he now all fluffy and clean. Smile

Trip to Sainsbury's for some shopping, used my voucher and got another for 6p off per litre of fuel, will come in handy. Happy

Heard from a work colleague of OH, he is away for the first time in his caravan, apparently put the awning up without too many hitches and is having a great time .

Went for a walk across the fields, very cold, but some wintry sunshine, home now in the warm, think it will be an evening in, bit of telly and a glass of wine. Happy

Cley was one of our favourite places when we visited Norfolk this year, we even went back for a second visit in September. Enjoy using your new telescope Oneputt .

Very very cold here today, frost hasn't lofted all day and we have a heavy mist, probably freezing fogUndecided Temp outside at this
moment is below freezing and the sun has now set.

Have finally taken the plunge and ordered up Sky tv, I have resisted it over the years as we get very good Freeview here, however the 'box' that we currently have is on its way out and a new one is coming in at around £200 pounds. We like it as it has a
built in hard drive and DVD player/recorder, the Sky package we have decided to go with has worked out at £16pm for 12 mths this is for the Variety bundle and a new 1TBQ box. OH has been after Sky for awhile now so have finally given in, will review it in
    12mths time.

Tammygirl that sounds like a very good price. If you're away often is it worth it?  We have cable, price continually creeps up, but we have reviewed it recently. Within a month wed had a call to ask if we'd like to up our package. OH not impressed, caller
didn't seem to understand that we'd cut back for ecomony reasons as well as what's on offer, kept saying its only another x pounds. OH said if I couldn't afford before why you think I want to increase now . Not having economic problems but regular trips
to NZ requires savings from whatever source we can find, I want to go again next year, its accommodation that really pushes up cost.

It does sound like a good offer. I have recently signed up for Sky broadband and phone package, they have the cheapest line charges of £17.40 and broadband is free for 12 months.Cool

I was going to start a thread regarding this as I have ordered an Android tv Box. You can get most tv channels for nothing using the built in apps all in HD, for less than £50, just Google it.Wink

    Anyone else got one?

Very cold today with lumpy rain.

So a chance for another trip away from the farm. Just for curiosity we went down the M6 and onto the new Bay Gateway.   - a brand new dual carriageway that goes almost to the ports at Heysham. There's still work to do (June 2017) according to signs, but
    holdups seem much reduced.

We drove back through Morecambe - OK if you look out to sea, but turn the other way and it's very depressing. We were doing a "recce" for a small music venue we're going to soon. We found it OK, but may struggle on a wet Sunday night.

Then back via the auction mart for a late dinner. They have a surprisingly good cafe.

Who says we don't know how to live it up!
