In love with Bunree
Question thats bugged me for years being a member of the caravan club - why are the club obsessed with Bunree when we have so many stunning sites up and down the country. Just recieved our new membership cards and there on the front......again......is bunree.
Great site but would be great to see some variety.
Why not run a competition each year and choose the best photo to put on the membership cards?

Does it really matter what picture is on the cards? Personally, I'd rather CC focused its resources on the sites network.

Can't say I've really noticed what picture it is. If pressed, I couldn't have been 100% certain it wasn't plain.

Its only a membership card, who cares what picture is on the front or if there is a picture at all.
If they have to have a photo, -------
They could always put a picture of G Chamberlain and a ruined caravan on the front. At least that would give most of us a good laugh.

Due to a slight cock up (and not by me) I have two cards this year - one the annoying cartoon and the other Bunree.
Bunree has possibly the most magnificent view from any site on the network, an almost 360 degree vista. And the bit that isn't part of that is the bit shown on the card!

I would not argue that it has great views but it makes no difference to me what is on the card. Basically the card is something to refer to when I need to and to show wardens who ask for it and the rest of the time it is out of sight.

Prefer North Ledaig to Bunree. Bunree is ok but the midgies are hell there, North Ledaig is almost midge free due to the onshore breeze, plus no restrictions on the views every pitch gets a view.
Not bothered what's on my card really but agree with Tinny that the club should focus on the sites network

Ive been going to Bunree since before they built the Public Lavatories there. Have lost count of the number of times. It's an easy 3 hr journey from home including a coffee break at the Green Welly Shop in Tyndrum.
It's one of my favourite areas. Easy access to the Glencoe hills, the Nevis range and the Mamores.
The views in the evening on our return to the van is stunning while sitting out with a well earned dram or two.
There are very few CC sites which have such dramatic natural scenery.

I'm with you on preferring North Ledaig, TG. As well as the reasons you list, the site shop is a mini market in itself and the facilities are probably better and more plentiful, plus the MHSP is easy to use.
I doubt we'll ever see North Ledaig featured on the membership cards, though, with it being an AS and not owned by CC.

I've been to The commercial site at North Ledaig many times. It's handy for Oban, has open views of the bay from the bottom section of the site, is next to a traffic free cycle track and has a well stocked shop.
As it ain't a CC site it would never feature on any CC cards or literature.
For scenery alone and convenience to the best hill walking in the UK, the CC site called Bunree beats that commercial site hands down.

It sounds nice, and I was going to pop in when passing this summer to take a look but the scrap vehicles and the big shed between the site and the road rather put us off to the extent we just drove onward.

You missed a treat, Nav. That working area of the site can't be seen from the pitches.

Its not clear from Google or Bing maps which bit is Caravan Club and which bit is the commercial site but the entrance road appears to run past that "work area" with pitches right beside it. Oddly, there is no link on the CC web site to download a site plan.
I can easity go in on my next passing - I am on that road regularily.

If I remember rightly, Nav, CC members can go anywhere. Pitches are allocated but you can express a preference.
I think the vans at the top are wardens/staff vans. We must have visited that site at least 20 times over the years and have always been pleased with our pitches. They all enjoy the spectacular view. If I could post a pic ......

Nav, there is a designated pitching area for CC members but you don't have to go in that area, we've stayed there on a number of occasions and never gone in the CC area we prefer to be down the front on the North part of the site, there is a walk from the site to the next village which is quite nice and a lovely cafe/ tearoom.
If you go on the sites own website they have a site map that you can look at, we like 3125 - 3121, if you are a motorhome and not putting out a canopy or awning they are happy for you to go rear in if your lounge is at the rear, this lets you enjoy the wonderful views.

It is all a commercial site owned and run by the one family.

Yes, K. Thankyou for emphasising my point. I said some way back, it's an AS and not a CC site. It's owned by the Weir family.
There is a good view of the bay from all pitches (because they are staggered) except those at the very top of the site where the wardens are sited.

We have stayed at both Bunree & North Ledaig and like them both equally.dont see what the concern over the picture on the club card is .if I had my choice it would be a pic of Bob Dylan

I don't mind a pic of Bunree if it appears on my card next year but it's not my favourite site, there are so many in Scotland! Our one stay there was in the middle of a terrible storm that whipped up Loch Linnhe and took van awnings and their contents away. I find it oppresive up there when the weather's bad, the mountains can get a bit gloomy, I prefer a glimpse of the sea or a longer view.

Are we discussing the same sites here? Looking down Loch Linnie one can see the horizon (if not raining) so I'm at a loss how one might get a "longer" view.

Bunree or Scotland in general is beautiful but it's hard to commit to visiting it to be met by horizontal rain & low cloud so regularly. It's a big old drive to find you can barely see beyond the next Van. South of the border does seem to have a decent crack

A few who get loch side pitches enjoy views that those elswehere on the site don't see quite as easily. A longer view to me means an open view, a bit further south on Loch Linnhe the views are more open towards Mull and the sea down there. But up near Fort
William I feel closed in, especially in dreary wet weather.....0 -

We once spent a wild evening (weather wise) at North Ledaig sat in the van watch out in the bay an airsea rescue going on. On another occasion we sat with the lights off just watching it get dark and the stars coming out then the moon shimmering across the
water, lovely. Out of the main season its our chill out do nothing place.0
