Swallows

Given the thread on Swifts I thought I'd start one for Swallows. They visit the stables next door every year. After the eggs have hatched mum and dad spend the entire day catching insects for the chicks. They fly over our garden, across the (quiet) road and down a footpath along the edge of a field. You can always tell where the insects are by the height that the birds are flying. Sometimes, when I walk my dog on the footpath, Swallows zoom past at waist height. It's a bit un-nerving when I see them coming straight at me. Do I move? Or will they? They always swerve. They do this all summer then, just for a break, they fly south and do it all again. Wonderful birds aren't they?
