Serviced pitches

Just returned from Exebridge lakeside. Great site.

There are 8 serviced pitches, all in use ( one by me). However, of the 8 pitches in use, only 4 occupants were using the water and drainage connections. What is that about? Surely these people should be stopped from preventing other members accessing the
services?

Before anyone replies about wanting hard standings, there are a substantial number of hard standings here, many of them empty. Why on earth pay extra for the services and then not use them, also inconveniencing members who do want the services?

Some on here might accuse you of curtain twitching Wink

it it might be that one member in the unit has a mobility problem and by booking that type of pitch puts them near the toilet block , but either way I don't have a problem with it ....

"Surely these people should be stopped...."

Really? Are you suggesting that someone should police the pitches and evict the occupants if they haven't hooked up to water and drainage? It's impossible to enforce usage of facilities or to stop non-users having the pitches.

Come on, Nuts, they've paid for the pitches and what they do is up to them.

It's their  money  and if they pay for a serviced pitch which may well have more space and maybe free wi-fi, then let them have it. I don't  think there is any law to say that they must use any of the facilities.  You've got your pitch, so don't be so grumpy.

Serviced pitches are handy in having a tap near the van so it is very simple to fill the aquaroll without needing a hook-up. I guess you could also empty a Wastemaster at the drain point, again without an actual hook-up. Could be the reason.

It's all about personal choice surely? The one time we've booked a serviced pitch was at Exebridge some years ago because on previous visits we'd noted the better views from them. Never connected to the water and have never used them since. And since we
only booked relatively late it never occurred to me that we'd be "preventing" others from using them!

They paid their money and are entitled, no ifs and no buts. I sometimes use a 'super pitch' abroad because of the location on site but I have no means to connect up, I still use the aquaroll and a small wastemaster. Just not as far to walk.

Answers not unexpected. No I don't expect the wardens to evict people, and I don't know what the answer is. I do know that I have been denied the use of serviced pitches by others who are not using the services. Whatever your view regarding "paid your money"
, it is inconsiderate to take a pitch that you don't need denying it to those who do.

Perhaps the CC should provide more serviced pitches, but then there would be moans about the extra cost of using them.

I don't get this. If you use an aquaroll and wastemaster you have the means of connecting. I connect my aquaroll to he tap, and my waste water exit to the drain.

With respect, I really don't follow your reasoning, n. Neither you nor I have any idea why others book a specific type of pitch. It might be for convenience, it might be because of some less than obvious disability, it might just be from personal preference.
If having a serviced pitch is particularly important to you the answer is surely to book one as far in advance as you can. Happy

Am I not correct in thinking that on most CC sites you have to pay for EHU even if you have no intention of using it? - same principle.  Anyway having a tap and a drain on the site is still a nice luxury, even if you use containers.  Walking a Wastemaster
uphill to the far end of a site is pretty hard work!

I think you need to consider the broader picture, Nuts. How can it be inconsiderate to pay for a service pitch when you need/want it for whatever reason? It's no more inconsiderate than using it for its intended purpose, or for using an awning pitch without
an awning, or for booking a weekend when you have weekdays available to you. It's personal choice and surely not something we should criticise others for exercising.

We rarely book a serviced pitch but if we are on a site with shower facilities it would be rather pointless our having one. We normally stay on site for 5 nights before moving on and as we use the site showers when available we have more than enough water
in a 40 litre aquaroll such that it is only filled once. On a serviced pitch as we will be carrying the wastemaster anyway it may as well be used rather than faff with additional tubing. We used a service pitch for 10 nights last Christmas and found it easy
enough to occasionally top up the aquarol with a smaller collapsable water carrier.

Hi nutz, I know what you are saying but I don't ever carry the means to connect on a serviced pitch. It's a short waste pipe into the wastemaster and no hose for the aquaroll, just a short pipe with various adaptors, enough to fill at the tap that's all.

Whatever next? We'll have people booking an awning pitch and not putting their awning up, or not using the EHU - (for a multitude of good reasons perhaps).

(Oooops! Just spotted Tinwheeler's and Vichallows's same comment).

Nutsitvr.......I see your point entirely and it must be very frustrating. Clearly some book serviced pitches purely to get a hardstanding. Unfortunately, this is their perogative and at least they pay for the priveledge.

Unlike those who book awning pitches purely because they believe they'll get a bigger pitch, but pay nothing for the privilege.

Ian, with respect, you are making some unjustified assumptions there. How do you know that anyone is booking a serviced pitch solely to ensure getting a hard standing? How do you know anyone books an awning pitch solely because they think it's larger. Neither
you nor I know why folk book a particular type of pitch. I can think of at least two CC sites where the service pitches are, arguably, not as good as standard pitches. I know a CC site we stayed at this year where several of the non- awning pitches are larger
( and bordered by hedges) than non awning pitches. It's all down to personal choice - you're surely not against that are you? Happy

We have used a number of service pitches across a number of sites, the major ones we use (Troutbeck Head, Melrose, Bridlington, Barnard Castle) are all hardstanding anyway but they do seem to be booked up first. And yes we do notice that some on service pitches on these sites do not use an aquaroll adapter so they must book them for some other reason. perhaps having their own tap and drain is enough? But again it's their choice and their money.

With respect, my 'assumption' is based on comments made on this forum, regarding the reasons why members book awning pitches, along with tbe fact that it guarantees them a hardstanding.

But clearly they don't know why they do it.......

    Not worthy of you, Ian!

When you arrive on a CC site do you choose the pitch you want or do you think "no I won't choose that nice pitch because I'd be preventing someone else using it"?

    No, thought not! Wink

So are you suggesting folk should only be allowed to book service pitches on condition they connect up to the water supply? Only allowed to book an awning pitch on condition they put up an awning? What do you suggest wardens should do about transgressors? Undecided

Where have I said any of that? Please don't project views that I haven't expressed onto me.

I pointed out to the op that if people pay for serviced pitches, it's their perogative whether they use the services or not.

I also said that awning pitches should be charged at a higher rate......I didn't say anything about people having to put an awning up.

Ah, good, so we agree then, folk are free to choose whatever type of pitch they want and, having paid for it, use it however they like within club rules. (And should not be made to feel guilty about doing so.)

    That's that settled then. Happy
