Rules to drive in Italy / compulsory spare tyre.
I am considering a trip to Italy next year, so I was trawling through a couple of web sites when I came across
ITALIA (‘The official website for tourism in Italy‘).
On the page Rules to drive in Italy it clearly states that one of the compulsory items you must have on board is a spare tyre.
This raises a problem, my Fiat based Rapido came with no spare, nor can one be retrofitted due to items located under the floor, and I am not prepared to carry one inboard for safety reasons, I do however carry a spare wheel rim in a locker (working on the
principle it would be easier to obtain a spare tyre than a spare wheel rim if damaged).
I wonder if the authorities would accept this option? I expect it depends on how much traffic disruption you cause.
