Portugal long stay

Hi there we are down in Portugal on site,arrived 17th Nov. we are due to leave for our ferry on 11th March but have just read about the 90 day visa rule and as we will be here about 114 days have started to get concerned.

People we are talking to here are staying anything upto 6 months and don't seem at all concerned, any one any experience of this situation ie advice on applying for extension . We are thinking of packing up and moving to Spain but would rather stay here.
