France in late Sept/early Oct

Hi....we are looking to go abroad late September early October for about a week, don't want to travel too far, probably 5 hrs max, can anyone give us some good ideas, most sites I seem to look at close in September, have travelled France on numerous occasions but first time with a van on the back, any suggestions would be grateful.
