overseas car hire after 8 June

For anyone thinking of hiring a car abroad after 8 June you will need a code showing any motoring convictions.  this is because the paper part of your licence, which shows convictions, becomes obsolete on that day.  Car hire companies may refuse to hire
you a car without proof of your driving record.  The code can be obtained online from the DVLA but it is only valid for 72 hours.  After that time, if you want to hire a car, you'll need another code.  This story is currently on the BBC News website so see
there for more details (or try the DVLA site).  I'm thinking here of motorhomers in particular as I know there are some who use hire cars when abroad.
