Brilliant NHS
1 a.m. Tuesday morning. We arrived home from a trip to Ireland. My left eye was hurting and vision was so blurred that I was effectively blind in it. I put up with the pain until about mid day when my wife
phoned for a doctor's appointment for me. I was seen at 15.30 and referred to the eye clinic at the Norwich & Norfolk hospital. On arrival I was examined and over the next five hours the following was done. My eyeball was pierced to reduce the pressure.
An additional drainage hole was made, by laser, in the eyeball to prevent re-occurrence. A drainage hole was made in my good eye to prevent the problem happening in it too. The pain and blurriness went. I had been suffering an attack of acute angle glaucoma
which could have cost me my sight. Now I am awaiting surgery to have my cataracts removed and replaced with good lenses. This should happen by Christmas. To say that I am impressed by this treatment would be a massive understatement. We are so lucky to
have the NHS.
