Pop Up Adverts

What are these strange pop up adverts for Ipads which keep appearing in the threads.   There is a highlighted word in blue (a hyperlink) and if you hover over or click it - an advert appears.    Very annoying, especially as I though clicking the words would
open a new link about the highlighted word.    Can it be stopped please?
