Unhappy with Thetford - gas hob problem
We have a Sterling Eccles Moonstone 2010 (just out of warranty). We have had trouble over the past year with the hob being faulty. The gas would light on the back gas ring, but once you put a pan on it - it would snuff out and not stay
lit. It's been very irritating to be honest. We had stupidly not mentioned it at the last service as it completely slipped our minds and so we've put up with it. However, this year at service, we remembered to mention it.
Turns out that this is a known fault to Thetford - despite being a gas problem, they did not have a recall. Instead they just replaced the faulty part under warranty for any vans who had made the fault known. It transpires that without having the part
changed, we wouldn't in future be able to get compatible parts to fit our hob. Our dealer tried valiantly to get this replaced for us under warranty but as our van is now out of time, they will not do this. So a cost to us, the customer of around £85
plus fitting for a replacement.
Now my argument is - this is a 'gas' issue, in my view a safety issue which could cause a problem in the future. I am not against having to pay for repairs to my van, but as this is a known issue to Thetford, feel it should be covered. In my view they
are being very uncharitable by not replacing the part F.O.C - I would even have been happy to meet them half way and pay for fitting if necessary.
Sorry for the rant, but I feel particularly hard done by with Thetford on this occasion, yet in past dealings they have always been very helpful.
Just had to get it off my chest.
