A different France

One of our strong memories of France is from 1989 on a trip back to Roscoff from the South West.  We had two nights before our ferry crossing and we found a little site right on the cliffs at St. Pol-de-Leon.  Like and English CL, it provided a chemical
waste point and a water tap but nothing else.  During our time there there we were joined by two young students with a tent; they had run out of money so we had to feed them for a couple of days before their crossing.  Apart from those two we saw nothig but
birds.  When we were last in France we returned to St. Pol-de-Leon.  We could not believe the changes.  There were several sites from which to choose, all with marked out pitches, sanitaires and so on.  We could not find the field on the cliffs where we had
a magical two days in 1989; perhaps it is a housing estate by now or, indeed, a busy caravan site. Plus ca change!
