Access at Cherry Hinton Site
We were on this site in July this year. I thought that visibility on exit was bad. We tended to only turn out to the left for that reason. Is it just me?

I'd agree with that. Turning right didn't give you good visibility of anything coming from that direction as I recall.

Just a tip for next time- try Highfield Farm at Comberton on the other side of the city. - which has better access, and gets higher review scores all round too.

We have used Cherry Hinton several times but have never attempted to turn right with the van,(have done with m/v) as the lane is quite narrow, and without a footpath beyond the site ,and traffic coming down the hill are at times not hanging arround,
The good thing is the great bus services from the village

I have probably used the site on 3 opccaions over the past 11 years. This is the first time that I recall being particularly aware of how poor the exit is. I suspect that hedge, bush, and some tree branches are less well maintained. I was involved with Highways
in Cheshire when I was working. Such an access would not have been approved without improvement to the visibility.0 -
The site is leased , and the area near the entrance ant the left hand side of the entrance road is managed by a nature trust ,I know that at least one warden has tried to get things opened up to improve visability from the right,but Cambrdge City Council Highways seem reluctant to do anything ,the Footpath opposite would you believe if far better than in the past!!!,there was atime that the only part available was about a foot wide

We were at Cherry Hinton in July, and agree the exit visability was not good, crossing the road on foot wasn't very good either, we walked the dog in the reserve opposite and you had to be very careful, it was difficult to see the traffic.

It must be about 5 years since we stayed there, but the exit visibility was very poor then.
Overall we weren't keen on the site at all especially as we were allocated (a not very nice) pitch

no particular reason, but we thought we'd give the C&CC site at Addenbrookes a try....the recent refurb, i guess....
anyway, the site was great, new HS, new site roads, loos refurbed etc....
one of our bike trips took us through Cherry Hinton so we popped in for a peep....not really very impressed as it was dark with many overhanging trees, poor access (as mentioned)... a mile away from the open, roomy feel to the other site...
location just as good as C& CC for the city, but the site was too dim/dull/dank/dark (delete as applicable) for us...
Yep there are some pitches that we would not choose for that reason.

From this picture it seems as that there is a wide entrance to pull forward from but traffic from the right is always going to be difficult to see without edging forward?

The roadway is pretty narrow and the plant growth needs a seeing to.
When we were leaving the site and having turned left and travelled a few hundred yards a transit stye van coming the other way used a dropped kerb to mount the footway to improve clearance.

I've never been allocated a pitch there. There are some pitches that I would not favour but we have always been able to select a suitable one
I think it depends on how busy it is. When we went in August, a few years ago, there were only two that our van would fit on. This was advised on arrival.

When we went, it was early June. After checking in, we were told to keep left, go down the slope, then reverse onto our pitch. The pitch was adjacent to, but below the level of the site road, with large overhanging trees. Not nice at all
We would definately not return!0 -

I thought I might have got a tiny bit of support for this one
I gave up Cherry Hinton years ago - went with a small caravan and was allocated a small pitch they couldn't sell to anyone else. Never went back and discovered the Chapman family at Highfield Farm instead. Privately owned sites give personal service.

...We have never been allocated a pitch on our several visits and the only thing ever pointed out to us is "have a look first" if you want to go left through the barrier,and the Pub at the crossroads does nice meals

..The picture does not show the bend in the road behind the blue car,it must have been taken at "peak" time as the queue is not like that at other times, you can see the footpath width

No, after we'd pitched as instructed, had a wander round the site in the evening. There were a few pitches in nicer parts of the site, but as we'd already got set up, unpacked etc. and were only staying a couple of nights there didn't seem much point in
asking to move the following day

...As I posted earlier,the only thing that has been "advised" to us is if you want to go to the lower pitches ,have a look first

We were there in July and advised to park up and take a walk to find a suitable pitch. Which we did
We weren't given an option. We were just told which pitch we were on. As I said earlier, our stay was 5 years ago, so wardens will be different now.
