Returning from Portugal in December route tips

Hi, busy planning our first overseas trip in MH, as it's only going to be 55 days leaving 20ish of Oct ok on route out, but starting to think of route back, originally had intended to be out longer so returning in March weather, now returning in December
when the weather will be worse through France. If anyone has done this return trip in December would appreciate any route plans and places to stop. Hopefully staying where it is warm for as long as possible, have to be at Calais for 14/15th December, max driving
4 hours per stop, as have 2 dogs with us, no more than 8 hours a day, ok to Stay on Aires, looking, for safest (weather condition) quickest route back. Thanks
