South of France

Well we have booked the ferry from Portsmouth to Cean on 1 June and return on the 29 June, we intend to head for the South of France, however we have never visiited the area before and have no idea the distances between regions so we would like some advice
on where we head for. My wife and I like old buildings (churches etc.) some sunbathing and of course retail therepy as well as walking I would appreciate any comments you might have on the area we should head for and any sightseeing you think is must.
