Empty van noise

Hi there everyone, I'm sure this has been discussed before but as I'm new I don't know where to look.  When I took my van out for a test drive it was very noisy and the dealer said it was because it was empty, does the noise lessen when cupboards are filled
or do I need to pack out the empty areas? thanks for any advice
