Newbie need help with overseas electric hook up
I am sure this has been aired before and if someone can direct me to this area I would be most grateful. Taking my MH into Italy this year but not sure about the amps. If I hook up on a 3 amp what equipment will I be able to run in my MH at any one time.

It will depend where you stay but if you are using campsites I have found that the dozen or so that I have used over the years have had 6amp electrics so maybe not so much of an issue?

Write your comments here... 3 amp @ 220 volts. That will give you a totall of 650 watts available (approx). Add up all the equipment you want to run at the same time. Wattage should be marked on the items or in their respective manuals.

We regularly visit a site in Italy with 3/4 amps. Even if you take the maximum it will be a while before it trips out, although we have never tripped the supply. You should get by with heating the water on the lowest setting (1kW) and if you use the microwave
or a low power kettle (900 watts) just switch the water heater off. We use the gas BBQ a lot but never use much gas. We stayed on the site for 4 weeks and only used about 2/3kg.0 -
just to add.....if you do need any gas in italy.......
this is the adaptor you need to convert a 'std' butane hose, with a 21.8 LH thread, into one that can receive the sligjtly smaller thread of an Italian bottle.
of course, of your hose is a uk POL 'bullet' shaped propane one.....normal on UK vans, youll have to do one of two things....
either, change to a 'butane' hose and then fit the adaptor above....
or, keep your 'propane' hose, add a converter to make it a 'butane' fitting with one of these....for simplicity i suggest this option.
....and then add the Italian adaptor for the local cylinder.....
so, in effect.....
use your normal hose to connect to ypur uk clinder, as now....
bit for italy, use the two adaptors (which can stay together as a unit) to convert to the correct thread.....
remove both adaptors when changing back to a uk bottle....
now.....if you spend tome in other countries in the future, the 'propane to butane' adaptor witll provide a common base for fitting sny other local adaptors as for the Italian one above.....
i know it sounds confusing but all euro adaptors are based on the 'butane' connection......easy to fit to (say) a german van as this is how they come.
good old UK, does it different to Europe, so first we have to convert the uk 'propane' fitting to the 'common' Europe base fitting....hence the two adaptors.....
Write your comments here...Is there anywhere in the UK to get kitted out with european gas bottle and fittings or does it need to be done whilst abroad

An easy calculation for electricirty usage in your van is:
Watts = Volts x Amps
European Voltage is 230 so a 3 Amp supply will run a device with a maximum wattage of 690. What you also have to remember is that 3 amps is barely enough to run your fridge let alone any additional device.
