German Sites

Just had a year off going to the continent after being caught in the migrant crisis last year at the tunnel.   Thinking about giving it another go next year in the caravan and not done Germany yet so fancy trying it but sites on CC seem few in number.  Does
anyone have any recomendations?  We want to go far enough down to stand a chance of decent weather and also a site reasonable for teenage kids would be good (have done Garangeoire in Vendee a couple of times and was excellent).  Any recomendations would be
gratefully received.

    How about the Black Forest. Look at Camping Munster talk south of Friel urgent.   Excellent site in a beautiful location, unfortunately not the cheapest.

    You could cross Hull to Rotherham or Harwich to Hook of Holland and miss out Dover/Calais

    MDD have a look on the ACSI Eurocamping website, you will find dozens of excellent sites.

    If I were to recommend only one area of Germany it would be Bavaria.

    The Forgensee is an ideal caravan base.

    For Motorhomers who travel, the main rivers are a good route.Smile

    I have about 40 reviews of German campsites on my website, see
    here     for the index, just scroll down to Germany. Swimming pools are not so common on Germany campsites but they are often situated close to municipal facilities usually with a reduced fee or free access.

    >This site< is pretty good, handy for cycle ways and short walk into the town. I don't think teenagers would be bored here.

    Years ago when I worked in Germany, I had a manager from Bavaria.  He used to joke that Disney was opening a new theme park there - he was just going to put a fence found Munich!

    If I was to recommend an area of Germany, it would be the Rhein, Mosel, Saar valleys.  Loads of good sites (and Sights), great food and wine too. I was there in April and I will be back in December for the Xmas markets.

    Use the Newcastle-Amsterdam route and drive to Cologne, along the Rhine to Koblenz and on to Mainz. Back towards Koblenz and up the Mosel to Trier & Saar valley  returning via Luxembourg, Belgium & Netherlands.

    MDD10. There are many wonderful areas in Germany thing is how long and when are you going, sounds like in season, as you mention teenage kids.    I recommend Bavaria and the Black Forest,  the Bodensee is a very interesting area too.  If you do not want
    to go too far the Mosel and Rhine are lovely too.  We have been going to Germany for 40 years the last 13 with the caravan. If you go

    Agree with Diane. Bavaria and any lakeside locations in Austria such as wolfgangsee will be great for active outdoor type teens.

    Many thanks for all,the replies.  I will work through the reviews and sites mentioned.  The Black Forest does appeal.  We usually go for about 3 weeks so long enough to travel a bit. Cheers

    If you are going to Black Forest look at our Trip coming home in June here  and coming home from Austria we stayed on Bodensee at a lovely campsite in this fantastic area then to Black Forest and home via Prumtal Camping and 1 night Camping Grimbergen.  Ideal way getting there is you land at Calais or Dunkirk.

    Hope this helps.  Any questions please ask will be pleased to help. The campsite in BF Trend Camping is virtually in the centre of th Black Forest and ideal for touring the whole area.  After many many visits to the BF over 40 years I feel this is the best part f the BF to base yourself in Caravan or B&B/Hotel

    HI Dianne.  Thanks for the help and looking through some stuff now.  What is the typical weather in the Black Forest in August compared to say La Rochelle in France or the Vendee?  We want a chance of decent weather as we have teenage kids etc

    Mid August when we stayed was good with temps of 20 to 25C.  Obviously due to being quite high there is some rain.  I think we had one day of rain in the fived days we were there

    Black Forest (cake) tastes nice and looks nice, according to the Deutsche Wetterdienst (German Met Office) Usedom and Rügen have the most sun, the hit list from another site for 2015

    1) Mecklenberg-Vorpommern       1648 hours

    2) Berlin                                     1635 hours

    3) Brandenberg                            1634 hours

    4) Baden-Württemberg                 1607 hours

    5) Bayern                                    1595 hours

    Don`t go West and South son, go North and East, beautiful untouched nature and friendly people and the prices for camping, restaurants and services altogether cheaper than the south. you don`t need asci and cc here. Calais - München 974km  /  Calais - Usedom 
    1072 km, so not much further.

    we spent today in Oberstdorf in the south and the weather is absolutely great (as is the food and scenery) with another 3 weeks of sun to come according to the locals.

    Write your comments here...So sorry I have not replied before but have been away in the Caravan with no WiFi. The weather we have had in the BF for years has been good.  Can get very warm indeed in late May and June as I know and expect later in the year
    too.

    Harry.  I have had a look at it.  Have you been July and August.  Just wondered how you found the weather?  Also, i have children 16 and 13.  Was there enough to do on the site and around?

    Dianne - we do want to go to the Black Forest or Bodensee.  Kids are 16 and 13 and we have to go during school holidays.  Definately need a pool and enough to do on the site and around if you have any recomendations it would be welcome.  Thanks
