On my recent journey to Dover – I had a somewhat unnerving experience! Travelling from home (Lincolnshire) I was almost at Dover to spend the night before catching the ferry to France. I was aware of a yellow
car quite “up my tail” and then it drew alongside and the male driver pointed to the hard shoulder telling me to pull in. Here we go – I thinks and do I look that stupid? He (on his own as far as I could tell) pulls onto the hard shoulder 4 way flashers going
and I just carry on. The road is thick with lorries as per normal and since I hadn't noticed any change in the way the car was pulling I decided it wasn't worth the risk. But it was extremely unpleasant wondering if one of the wheels WAS about to fall off
or something! I thought of pulling off at the next exit but the yellow car was there – so I carried on to Folkestone Services and stopped there. (Masses of wrong vehicles in the Caravan spaces including a Police van!) I found a place further on and went to
the policevan and nice policeman said would I like him to check the caravan over – I hadn't found anthing but a second opinion is good! I also thought I had the reggo of the yellow car which the policeman took – and its W reg belied the condition of the car
which was good – but in the heat of the moment I was more centred on my outfit than the other car. Just as he was out of range I thought of the mobile with its camera! Anyway nice policeman (and I didn't ask to see his ID – which wasn't clever) agreed nothing
looked amiss but took my details and came back in a few minutes to say that the Reggo didn't fit. I think it must have been not W164xxx – but something 64xxx – I rather think canary yellow for a Ford Focus is new! Anyway I carried on to excellent £4 per night
CL – Thank you whoever recommended – although in my nervous state I was a bit unsure of finding it! When I got there – I noticed a green hose – trailing a bit out of the front locker – it has been in the locker since I bought the van second hand – the previous
owners water filler thing! So that MIGHT have been what the yellow car was looking at – BUT the policeman said NEVER NEVER stop on the hard shoulder unless something is really wrong – as the lorry drivers fall asleep and kill you off! Then he was obviously
in protective mode of single pensioner woman – and warned me to be really careful at Calais – as things are getting worse and worse there. One of his colleagues had to fight them off his boat when he went sailing in the area. He was reassured (as was I) that
I am using Dunkirk anyway. Apparently quite a few people are using Dunkirk because of the hoards trying to get to the UK who gather in the Calais area.

I now see from ValDa's posting that things really are hotting up - so take care everyone!
