Beating the bugs!

Hi, Has anyone any tips for keeping midges and mosquitoes out of an awning (other than keeping it all zipped up).  I was considering buying a couple of citronella candles but am worried that they should not be used in an enclosed space (tents etc).  Any
hints, tips advice or recommendations would be great.  Thanks.
