Quiet campsite in the Ardeche region

Hi,

We (wife, me and 3 young children) are looking to go to the Ardeche next August and are looking for a nice quiet site preferably with a pool. We don't want typical French site with all the entertainment, water slides, etc. Can't bear the thought of anymore
French karaoke.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Paul.

We've been using what we thonk of as "typical French sites" for many years and have never encountered the things you mention.

However, our understanding of "typical" means municipals. I suggest you try them.

Les Chadenedes at Grospierres, near to the villages of Vallon Pont d'Arc, Ruoms and Les Vans.  No 'bling', but a nice pool, and just a lovely site.  It used to be a campsite, then went over to gites, but I noticed recently they're advertising camping/caravanning pitches again.

We love the Ardeche area and now store our caravan nearby.

Vallon, Ruoms and Les Vans have lovely markets - Thursday in Vallon, Friday in Ruoms, and Saturday in Les Vans.  Les Vans is particularly good for local food producers.

There are a couple of very reasonably priced restaurants and bars in Grospierres Gare, and a tiny (but reasonably priced and very friendly) supermarket.  There's also a caravan accessories shop and access to the river Chassezac for swimming, quite near to the site.  These are probably a couple of kilometres from the site itself.

There are some lovely excusions and plenty of family things to do, depending on the ages of your children. This is a site for families with small children and older children or teenagers may find it too quiet.

It's in a lovely area - and just tucked away from the busier towns.

If that one doesn't interest you, then there are several more I could suggest.

Another one which might suit is Camping la Turelure near Uzer  on a tributary of the Ardeche. Photos, vidos and reviews on their website.

I must admit I like the look of Eurotraveller's suggested site!  We love riverside sites and they are our preferred choice in most regions of France!
