live feed to van not working

Hi

I have an insignia sports tourer and found out the other day that when the van is connected I should be able to run the electrics from either the van battery or car battery. the control panel when pressed to use car just beeps and power stays on van.  Start
the car and the battery starts to charge.  Im trying to work out if its a van fault or car but need some advice.
