Women's toilets in France

We are thinking of going to France, we would be stopping in my cousins gite. A person was talking to my wife yesterday and told her the women's toilets aren't very nice ie hole in the ground type of thing and many havnt got seats. I wonder if some kind person
would care to enlighten me on this aspect. It's not the gite we are bothered about but seeing as its a fact finding mission to take the van its public type of toilets that we are bothered about. Any comments would be appreciated.
