Tow a caravan or tow a car?

Or in other words do we buy a motorhome and tow a small car with it or buy a tow car and caravan.

i appreciate this may be a done to death topic on here but I am genuinely interested in people's current thoughts.

our inclination is towards a motorhome but are put off by the need to pack everything up just to go out for the day, so what? Just jump in the small car you are towing, what if you need to 'pop to the shops'. Ditto.

but....

 

if you are towing a car with a motorhome why not tow a caravan with a car?

 

thoughts any body, pros and cons of either choice.
