France......just the beginning

Next month we are going abroad in our Motorhome, we are newbies and have recently retired.  I would really appreciate some assistance with the beginning of our European travels.  To start we are going through France to Switzerland and we would be grateful for any assistance with our route.  We want to avoid toll roads, time is not an issue for us and we would like a picturesque route, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
