France Spain border crossing

Towing a caravan down west coast of France heading for Javea, north of alicante. Any suggestions where to cross into Spain, not on motorway.  We are In no hurry. Have previously crossed via Andorra and Viehla but Andorra was a little scary! Many
thanks.  Did think of crossing at St Jean Pied De Port but not sure of terrain.
