Parking in France

Last year my wife and I were in Cancale near St Malo and wanted to park in the town but the only available places were  marked with blue borders. We managed to find out that we needed to go to a nearby tabac and purchase what looked like a disabled drivers
clock badge (Bright blue in colour). On leaving the car the time was set and I think we were allowed 1 Hours parking, it may have been slightly longer.

We are going back to France this year and wonder if the badge clock is still valid as there is nothing written on it. Can any of you good people advise?
