Twin axle caravans in Europe

Following on from another thread, where it was reported that in some areas of France sites do not accept twin axles, I wondered how prevalent this is?

Is it purely down to the fact that 'travellers' often have twin axles and aren't welcome, is it because they are too big, or is it any other reason?

Are there certain regions where this problem is greater than others?
