Caravan damage
Some has run into our caravan this weekend and caused some panel damage. I am concerned that the insurance will just try and fill the damage and respray it but this was a new van in December! Where do I stand on insisting on a new side pannel? And can any
one recomend any good repairers in the north west?

We are insured with the club and when needing a small scrape repair to our one year old van involving the awning rail and the very front corner, the club insurance assessor insisted we had a whole new front panel and awning channel, in this instance I thought
it was a bit OTT as a little bit of plastic filler would have sufficed and part awning channel.0 -

With my car I was more or less told where to take it, Car Clinic or Car Clinic. Is it not the same for caravans? If it was to have a new side panel, might it not have to be returned to the factory, depending on type of construction.

Insurance companies cannot, by law, dictate to you where you have your car repaired. Yes, they try. Stick to your guns, particularly with car/ van still under warranty.

When we claimed to get some damage fixed the assessor sent by the insurance company mentioned two local caravan repairers, both of which we knew, and asked which we would prefer!

Ignore car insurance it is not comparable. With the CC we were just asked for one quote and the assessor then discussed the repair with the dealer and authorised the work. It is very doubtful they will look at a repair as replacement panels are the norm,
just be prepared to wait as they take for ever.0 -

You may find they will go for a fill and spray job, depending on the area of damage.
Insurance assessor for our end panel job (with some slight side damage) said they would not justify the price of re-skinning the side which is the way it is apparently done. This adds weight and requires removal of windows etc.
The more work that is done, there is also the possibiity of introducing leaks.
There can be an issue with colour mismatch years after the repair but that may be the price that has to be paid.
Our job is 4 years old and still looks fine (except that the ABS rear panel has developed a crack in it so in the middle of a warranty claim for that).

Hi McHugh I would recomend Crossleys caravan repairers at Leyland nr Preston. They repaired my 1year old Bailey after accident damage in our storage compound. I found them very helpful, when i was getting nowhere with Baileys and the dealer i purchased

Crossleys repaired damage to the whole side of my 2015 Swift earlier on this year. They are really helpful to deal with and the job is superb. There is no evidence that the panel has ever been damaged. They were quick too, think they had the van for about
10 days in total, including its first service.0 -

Very interested in this discussion as we were involved in accident in Germany which has scored the door side panel of our 2003 Lunar Clubman which was before the event in excellent condition bodywise. The police were onvolved. We are insured with the Club so are hoping that the claim side of it will be OK. Just wondered about Memebers experience with getting this sort of damage repaired, We live in Scotland.
