Band Girl - Are you sure it's not an iPad Air 2 or an iPad Mini 2? Both these have the lightning cable and can be upgraded to iOS 10.
The iPhone 5 was the first iPhone to get the lightning cable and can also use iOS 10.

I updated my Ipad to IOS 10 a few weeks ago, the only problem seems to be it won’t automatically log in to my BBC account which the older version did. When I go to sign in to the BBC account the username and password are correctly filled in, I just have
to tap the sign in button. Not a major issue but a bit of a pain.Anyone else had this issue or know of a fix?

I'm having problems with my Bluetooth Garmin GLO (it's a device that provides GPS information to other devices that don't have an inbuilt GPS - like my iPad).
Kept disconnecting - sometimes went half an hour, sometimes only 5 minutes. Very annoying! Grrrrrr!
Apparantly it's a problem with iOS 10........why oh why didn't I leave it a bit longer to update?!

i have an older ipad (OH cast off) which is sitting at IOS ver 9.3.5, i guess it wont be able to use some of the IOS 10 functionality (similar to my DIL cast off iphone
).....however, these older devices both have their own inbuilt GPS.
i didnt know that any recent iPads/iPhones didnt have GPS.
how would they drive apps like google(maps) which all rely on your location to deliver their services accurately?
Ian/Rocky, do you have 'older' kit (no GPS) yet can still be upgraded to IOS10?

OH has an older iPad2. Just goes to show that latest shiny isn't always better.

BB - with iPads you have a choice of either a 3G model (or 'cellular' as they are often called) or wifi only.
If you go for the 3G/cellular version, then you need a sim card.
Only the 3G/cellular versions have a built in GPS. The wifi versions can get an approximate position using their wifi function (I believe they do it by triangulation) but it's only approximate and dependant on wifi.
iPhones are obviously all 3G/cellular and all have GPS built into them.
So why didn't I buy a 3G version of the iPad? Well, because a) they are more expensive, b) you have to have a sim contract, so more monthly costs and c) the GPS isn't very accurate or reliable (I believe it relies on the 3G signal and as I use it for navigation while flying, that isn't at all reliable!).
An external GPS is far more accurate and reliable - normally! The Garmin GLO receives both GPS (American) and Glonass (Russian) satellite signals and it also updates itself 10 times per second, apparantly.
But it seems to have been defeated by the Apple corporation!

Ian, thanks, that would explain the non-GPS point as my ipad is a cellular model. we chose it (as with the wife's) because we thpught we would be driving them both from one or other's 3G signal when away from wifi.....different network sims in each....
however, i managed to get a load of data with my phone sim, so we actually run it and the two ipads from the same data source.
if we need to ise a different network to mine (vodafone, thpugh its been really good lately) we can use wither ipad to share data from their PAYG sims...
right, back to IOS 10....Im assuming this is likely to be model dependent as my ipad is 'old' as is my phone....

Further to my earlier post, OH's iPad is iOS9 and showing as 'up to date', so too old for iOS10. My Macbook has started nagging me to install "Sierra".

I did not like the fact that it made our iphone se switch on every time you touched it. The older iphone 5 was not affected. It took me ages to find where to switch it off. Finally found a function raise to wake, which was set to on. Presumably designed
for those who leave there phones face up on the desk. So when they pick them up, it saves a button press. For me it just wasted battery every time I moved it.0 -
IOS 10 is an all singing all dancing up to the minute Op System designed to be used by every piece of Apple hardware. There will be winners and losers as some legacy hardware will be more compatable than others.
Unlike other OP systems, The Apple IOS is virtually untweekable as Apple have made it impossible to tune or modify the system to suit individual circumstances.
So there you have it - Either upgrade any hardware where problems are occuring, or stick to an earlier version of the IOS.

4S.are you saying that ALL hardware is comparible (obviously to varying degrees) and i just need to sit tight for the new OS to become available?

I take your point K, but as with previous operating systems, it takes Apple a while to iron out all the bugs. And the 'bug' with Bluetooth is getting a lot of comment on various forums.
Rather a shame really, when Apple are promoting the use of Bluetooth headphones (there isn't a headphone socket on the iPhone 7).
I'm sure they will come up with a fix.....eventually!
BB - no, I doubt they will ever make iOS compatable with older iPads and iPhone 4 (or earlier). It's Apple's way of telling you to buy a new piece of kit!

from the list in the link provided by K above, it would seem that the iphones are only compatible with IOS 10 from the iphone 5 onwards
however, the model number i gave above for my ipad translates (according to google) to iPad Wi-Fi/GSM 3rd Gen, which, according to the same list, compatible
i await any change, i guess the roll out will likely be by device type/model to isolate any group related issues.
for those 'keen' to upgrade, remember that old IT maxim about moving kit onto the 'bleeding edge' of latest software versions

My OH's iPad 2 is stuck on IOS9. something. As BB says "If the new software needs new hardware, you don't need the new software"

My phone now says that iOS 10.1 is available.
I believe thst this was originally intended to add further camera features for the IPhone 7, but amongst the long list of other changes is a fix that deals with bluetooth problems with third party equipment.
This looks like the one I need......must resist trying to update until the rush dies down......

I thought I would share this information on how to do a screen shot on iOS 10, as it is radically different to the previous system, whereby you briefly held down the on off button and pressed the home button. I assume as the home button now wakes up the
device, rather than a swipe, they have had to come up with some thing different. You now have to customise a button, which hovers distractingly above everything else, and this takes the screen shot. I don't use them very often, but when I tried to do one today
and couldn't, it took a while to sort out. If you have a need the method is as detailed below, copied from an Apple communities support forum:-- open | Settings | General | Accessibility | AssistiveTouch
- Customize Top Level Menu
- click on one of the existing icons (or add a new one)
- chose "Screenshot"
- return to AssistiveTouch
- turn AssistiveTouch ON. A new icon appears floating above the rest of the items on your display.
- tap the icon to open the Top Level Menu that you just customized.
- tap the Screenshot icon. The Top Level Menu vanishes and the screen flashes to indicate a screenshot has been taken.

Thanks for that info Rocky. It definitely does not work on mine, but I have yet to upgrade from the initial version of 10. I will try it once I have updated. Hopefully it will work on my device, because I really don't like this button hovering about.
