How would you design a shower block?
We recently stayed at York Beechwood Grange, the shower block was very busy most mornings with queues for the ladies showers. This shower block could really do with updating and I wondered, with so many commercial sites having very comfortable modern shower blocks, how members would design a shower block. Firstly I would never have toilets opposite the showers, who want to queue for a shower outside toilet doors. Why not put the privacy cubicles opposite the showers? On this subject why are there so many privacy cubicles? There are often queues for the showers while the cubicles aren't often used, we need them but not so many. I would make the shower cubicles bigger, especially the dressing area and get rid of the silly small stalls and install a proper fitted bench. Lots of hooks for towels and to hang your clothes on, I'm sure we would all be a lot quicker if we had more space. Also it is totally unacceptable for four showers to have an open drain gulley running into one drain in one shower, each shower should have it's own seperate drain. I really don't want other ladies used shower water overflowing from this gulley and running into my shower as often happens. Two hairdryers and please dont put them over the sinks. Also underheating would be lovely. Dare I say it..maybe a woman architect should design the ladies facilities. How would you design a shower block?
