Visiting the south west of France, what to see?

Hi,

My husband and l are travelling to the Argele Sur Mer region of France this August.  This is our second time in this area the first being many many years ago when the children were small; where trips were mainly to the beach!

Just wondering if memebers could advise on places to visit; we appreciate it will be busy at this time of year but would value any recommendations.  We like old small village/towns with a lot of history and culture.
