Italy versus France?

Hi,

We have visited France over the past twenty five years touring and ultimately ending up somewhere dry, hot and sunny.

We are thinking of the Italian lakes for our visit in 2015 and wondered if anyone could help with the following queries?

We have to travel late July through August, given the time of year will there still be varying temperatures within the lakes (Garda, Como, Maggiori)?

Will Mosquito's be an issue; from what l have read there appears to be differing opinions?
