Brittany Ferries Portsmouth to St Malo and back
This is a great ferry crossing, with a fine vessel, good catering, comfortable cabins, good entertainment, and an overall relaxing crossing. We travelled this route in June and going out to France had no problems as were were parked along the side wall of the ferry. Coming back however we were parked in the middle of the boat. The caravan that was parked next to us was actually 1 inch away from the side wall of our caravan, and was parked slightly behind our car. It was so close that my wife had to enter our car through the drivers side. I had to take the extended wing mirrors off the near side of our car, so that his car and caravan could pass us when we landed at Portsmouth. I know that it is a work of art allocating space to all vehicles but this ferry was not full, so why cars and caravans were so crammed in belies belief. The other problem about being parked in the centre is that other caravanners and motorists use the space between your car and caravan as a short cut to the deck stairs, often inadvertantly pulling the wiring out of the car socket in the process. We would do this crossing again but would ensure that before we went up on deck we checked what was parked next to us.
