Spam on iPhone

Like many, I have emails copied to my phone, so that I can see them when on holiday, when out and about or to save turning the pc on.

But I get a massive amount of spam delivered to the phone.

On the pc, it filters out most of the spam and I can mark as 'junk' any that it misses, so the amount that arrive on the pc is minimal.

What a shame that the iPhone cannot do the same, given Apple's reputation for dealing with viruses etc is so much better than Microsoft.

I suspect it might be more to do with your email provider rather than the iPhone, Ian.

I get mail from three different email accounts, including Cloud, on my iPhone and don't get spam. Apple's Cloud mail filters spam as do the others. Have you looked at the settings in your account on the provider's webmail site (not the phone settings) to see if there is something you can tweak?

Failing that, try some chips with it.Tongue Out

My i-cloud account doesn't get any spam. It's our TalkTalk account that gets it all and passes it on to the phone (Even after moving it to 'Junk' on the pc. I've looked on various forums and there's no way to stop it. Big fault with Apple.

I suppose the only answer is to get a Mac.......if only!

As others I hardly get any spam on iphone but do on Windows 10. I think it is down to your isp and it should be possible to set your filters to reduce it.

I think you should be looking at Talk Talk, Ian. I guess it's a problem with their server not blocking spam. They're not known for being the most secure.

My mail comes from Cloud, BT and Hotmail. The latter is the most troublesome but, even so, I don't get spam.

Sorry, I don't know enough to say any more.

From the newspaper business section today. Spam texts, a legit company will let you text STOP. If it's not legit forward the message for free 7726 (spells spam) to your provider. If enough people do this the number
will be investigated and blocked. See the i on line page 56 for more info and possibly other web sites about how to stop spam on a mobile too.

Like others I hardly get any spam on my mobile.

Ian's problem is with email rather than texts, Brue, and specifically concerns iPhone. Does the article throw any light on that?

It's a general article. No doubt the answer will be out on the web somewhere. Maybe look for a demo on youtube too.

We just stick to one mail provider BT which we access either on our Windows PC or on our iPhones / pads, so it makes no difference to the amount of spam we get. Having said that BT mail is poor at filtering it out, although we don't get a lot. It was a lot
better when BT used Yahoo Mail, rather than their own system.

We have BT Infinity at home, and btinternet emails. The spam is filtered out on the desktop pc, but my iPhone and iPad sometimes gets inundated with spam. It makes no difference whether I'm at home, or on a public WiFi. Moving it all into a spam folder keeps
some out of my inbox. I'm always a bit wary of using the "unsubscribe" buttons in case they think "we got a response, keep on sending more". This theory may be completely wrong. Can someone enlighten me?

I'm wondering if there is currently a problem with EE/TalkTalk/Lineone mail servers. I tried sending an EMail to a friend twice last night and it was blocked and bounced back as "spam".

I did try 'unsubscribing' but if anything, it got worse.

Just to be clear.....my iCloud account receives no spam. It is just spam emails that are copied from our TalkTalk account.

On the phone you can chose which account you want to view -i-Cloud or TalkTalkin my case. For some reason, it copies across everything to the TalkTalk account, even the spam that TalkTalk moves automatically into 'Junk' on the pc.

I've searched many forums and never found a solution.....just thought the good folks on here might know of one.

I don't know how often you need to view the Talk Talk mails on your iPhone, Ian, but if it's not often you could turn the account off in Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars and leave it inactive. If you do want to use it you can
quickly make it active and then the mails will flood in. When you return to Inactive all the mails will vanish again. It saves clutter.
